CORGI is the National Watchdog for Gas Safety in the UK. CORGI registration is obligatory for any business undertaking work on gas fittings or appliances and it is illegal to work on gas without being CORGI registered. Always look for a CORGI logo and ID badge when employing someone to work on gas. The back of the ID card lists the different jobs the operative is licensed to carry out and gives the expiry date. All CORGI-registered installers must carry the ID card and have it available to show to you when they are working in your home.
For more information on gas safety and to check CORGI registration click here and type in the registration number of the operative to check the details match. Ensure you check the card and photograph of the operative before they begin work.
CORGI registered gas installers have passed recognised exams to prove their competence and there is an annual renewal process running from 1 April to 31 March.
CORGI is able to investigate complaints about the gas safety side of work undertaken by both registered and non-registered installers. Once they have received a complaint an inspector will arrange to visit the premises and carry out an investigation.
When you list a job on trustedlocal.com on-screen help will help you through the process of ensuring your work will be performed in accordance with these requirements.
